Training and Development
What is training and development?
Training is a formal process by which talent development professionals help individuals improve performance at work. Development is the acquisition of knowledge, skill, or attitude that prepares people for new directions or responsibilities.
Reflection
One of my greatest professional interests is to train and help others in their efforts to be successful in whatever they do. I find great joy in taking complex roles and processes and creating a manageable system to learn them. I discovered my love for training early as a young volunteer missionary for my church in southern Brazil. There, I was able to train and teach other missionaries on how to improve their efforts as missionaries and in speaking the Portuguese language. I also spent a considerable amount of time in my early 20's training as a coach for both competitive gymnastics and tumbling for the Idaho State University cheerleading team.
While most of my professional career has been spent as an instructional designer and instructor, most recently I have worked as the lead instructional designer and trainer for the online seminary program in the Utah Valley Central Utah region. A large portion of my responsibilities includes training teachers on online instruction, how to use Canvas Instructure, and digital pedagogy.
